Fans on social media believe that Canada’s
Felix Auger-Aliassime should not stay in touch with the uncle of former world number one Rafael Nadal’s uncle,
Toni Nadal after he has not travelled with him to the
Madrid Open. The 23-year-old suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of
the ATP 1000 event in the Spanish capital to Russia’s Andrey Rublev with a score
of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Talking after the match, Auger-Aliassime revealed that Toni,
who has been working with him since 2021 when he was just 20 years old, is not
going to be a part of his coaching staff ‘until further notice’. "Until
further notice, Toni, we’re still in touch but he’s not like actively part of
the team like travelling and with me," he said. "But he was always a
good voice, good [to] add let’s say somebody from the outside that has
experience. But he’s not actively with us this week."
The development did not please some fans on social media, who went as far as asking the current world number 20 to block Toni’s number. "Well
this is welcomed news. Toni did FAA dirty and I wouldn't even keep in touch
with him," a fan wrote on the social media platform X—previously known as
Twitter. "He shouldn’t even keep in touch. Block his number," another
fan wrote.
