Top men's first round matches to watch at the 2025 Australian Open

With the 2025 Australian Open only a few days away, the draw has been revealed, leading to some very intriguing first round matchups.
Defending champion Jannik Sinner kicks off his campaign with a battle against big-hitting Chilean Nicolas Jarry. The World No.1 ended his 2024 season by winning both the US Open and the ATP Finals, and is the clear favorite to win his third career Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
Battle of beloved Frenchmen to occur in first round
In an intergenerational clash, French veteran Gael Monfils will take on young compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in what could be one of the best matches of the opening round. Additionally, former top 10 star Stefanos Tsitsipas will battle another rising star, as the Greek player looks to get past American Alex Michelsen.
Former World No.3 Grigor Dimitrov is scheduled to face Italian journeyman Fabio Fognini, while Danish star Holger Rune will battle China's Zhang Zhizhen. There will be an all-American encounter in the opening round, as Ben Shelton will lock horns with tricky countryman Brandon Nakashima.
Another pair of Italians will be in action, as former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and youngster Flavio Cobolli take on British star Cameron Norrie and Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry respectively. Below are other enticing first round matchups on the ATP side of the Australian Open.
