The top seed at the
NOVENTI OPEN is out of the event as
Daniil Medvedev got bested by
Jan-Lennard Struff.
Daniil Medvedev got upset by Jan-Lennard Struff on the German's home turf fairly easily as he simply did not have his day. Medvedev entered Halle with high hopes of a good result on a surface he does well and likes. However, he did not have his day against Struff who was simply better today.
It started well for Medvedev who moved very well on the grass and was able to get a good read on Struff's serve. It allowed Medvedev to quick on return catching the German off guard. He took an early break and held it until 5-3 when he served for the set.
However, he dropped his focus and lost the game giving Struff the chance he was looking for. Medvedev had a set point at 6-5 but Struff was able to send it to the tiebreak where he proved better. Medvedev was slightly ticked off and started missing more and more.
Struff won it with 8-6 and that gave him the confidence to play even better in the 2nd set. Medvedev was visibly upset as he clashed with the umpire several times due to a code violation. In the end, Struff was able to win the 2nd set with 6-3 sending Medvedev home but the Russian did not shy away from demolishing the racket and damaging the court before leaving.
