Alexander Zverev defeated Hubert Hurkacz in a must win match for him at the ATP Finals securing a spot in the semifinals.
Alexander Zverev arrived to Turin in high ambitions and despite feeling tired after a long season the German will play in the semifinal. He earned that spot after defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a match that he needed to win at all costs. Speaking on that after the match he said:
“Today was a tough match mentally because I needed to win, so I was 100 per cent focused. It was very up and down, and I am happy to be through and win in straight sets. You can always improve. The margins are always very small between the top players, but to win you have to do the details right. I hope I can do that on Saturday.”
Zverev will most likely face Novak Djokovic who will finish on top of his group with a presumed win over Cameron Norrie later today. The German is not afraid of facing Djokovic as he did so many times in his career:
“I have played Novak in every single big hard-court tournament this year. We are making a habit of playing in the later rounds at big tournaments. It is going to be an entertaining one I think.”
How much Zverev will able to do in a match against Djokovic remains to be seen but as he noted himself it will be an entertaining one.
