Alexander Zverev easily beats Hubert Hurkacz 6-1, 6-4 and qualifies for the semifinals in Turin, where he will face Novak Djokovic. Another big semifinal this year between them, after the Olympics and US Open. (Hubi was quite poor all week)
The start of the match set the tone rather well as Hurkacz entered the match very nervous. His serve was not hitting early on and he tried to compensate it with aggressive play. It did not work out for the Pole as he lost his serve in the first game and from there it kind of snowballed further. He would lose his serve once more allowing Zverev to take a 4-0 lead in the first set which practically ended the set.
From there both players were on cruise control and Zverev was ultimately able to finish off the set with 6-2. Hurkacz picked up a bit of confidence after winning a couple of service games and that showed in the 2nd set. The Polish player played a lot better in the 2nd set initially winning his service games with ease. The serve was hitting and his groundstrokes were precise.
Over time Zverev was able to counter back and apply more pressure on the Polish player. The first break point came at 3-3 in the 2nd set but Hurkacz was able to hold on. After that Zverev applied some more pressure and Hurkacz faltered. Faced with more break points he committed very bad errors to lose his serve.
In the next game had an 0-30 advantage but Zverev was able to wiggle out of that with some great serves. Ultimately a 6-2 6-4 win for Zverev which was a bit easier than many thought. The Polish player played a fabulous first match but faltered in the next two.
