Former world number one
Andy Roddick lambasts a media organisation
for producing a ‘trashy clickbait’ story out of his quote. The 42-year-old is
very vocal about different aspects of the sports and hosts a podcast as well
which is available on YouTube.
Roddick has been quoted in a report by Tennis 365 where he named
former Spanish player
David Ferrer as the best men’s tennis player to have not
won a Grand Slam. “Not nearly enough people say David Ferrer. So so so good,” he
said. Interestingly, based on this quote, Tennis 365 ended up having a headline
where they claimed that the former world number one ‘overlooked’ Germany’s
Alexander Zverev.
“Andy Roddick names best player not to win a Grand Slam and
overlooks Alexander Zverev,” was the headline of the story. On social media platform
X—previously known as Twitter—Roddick responded to that headline and called it ‘trashy
clickbait’. “Yeah so not true at all. Said not enough people will mention
Ferrer. Didn’t name anything and didn’t overlook anyone. Trashy clickbait,” he
wrote.
It is understandable to an extent why the media organisation
used Zverev in the title as he is having a fabulous 2024 season. The German
tennis star recently became the world number two after winning the Paris
Masters. He defeated France’s Ugo Humbert in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-2, 6-2. This was Zverev’s second title this year. Earlier, he also
lifted the Rome Masters after beating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in the final in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Zverev had an impressive Grand Slam
season as well. His best outing was in the French Open where he finished as the
runner-up after losing to world number three Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the
final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
