After Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz announced their withdrawals earlier today, Felix Auger-Aliassime added his own to the mix with a post on social media.
The Monte-Carlo Masters entry list is slowly losing players as Rafael Nadal came as the first major blow to the event. Not long after that, we saw Alcaraz pull out due to injury as well with Auger-Aliassime now adding his name to the mix as well. He posted an update on social media which said:
"Unfortunately I have to announce my retirement from the Monte-Carlo Masters this year. It is an event that I look forward to each year however, I have been struggling with my left knee for the past few weeks and decided it was the smartest decision to take some time off so I’m able to fully heal and recover before my next tournament at the Madrid Open. Thank you as always for your support and I look forward to seeing you back on court soon."
That's a huge blow for Auger-Aliassime who has high hopes of his clay season after several promising matches last year. Having had a base in Monaco for many years only adds to his chances there but he will have to wait for another year in order to compete at the event.
