Sabine Lisicki will return to the main draw at the CreditOne Charleston Open this evening facing Caroline Dolehide years on from winning the title back in 2009.
Having to win multiple matches to even get to this point through qualifying, she has played some Challenger Tennis but admits her career should've been cut short.
After injury troubles, she said after qualifying that it should've been all over so it is now just a blessing and she will get one of the main stadium courts to show appreciation for her previous efforts.
"It means so much to be back in Charleston. After having an injury that (meant) I was never meant to play tennis again on a professional level, it's sort of a dream come true to be back here," she said on ABC News.
"To fight my way through to the main draw getting so much support, so many years ago Charleston has such a special place in my heart (referencing 2009 win) so it's so nice to be back."
