Former Wimbledon Sabine Lisicki is still not done with tennis as the veteran will play at Charleston this week following a successful campaign in the qualifiers.
To get a place in the main draw, Lisicki defeated Katarzyna Kawa in three sets, two of which were tie-break sets. Lisicki still has her massive serve and the forehand is certainly pretty solid considering that she's years away from her peak. She became quite emotional after booking a spot in the main draw explaining:
"It means so much to be back in Charleston. You know, after having an injury that I was never meant to play tennis again on a professional level, it's just sort of a dream come true to be back here and then to fight my way through to the main draw, getting so much support like so many years ago."
She further admitted that Charleston holds a special place in her heart:
"Charleston has a very special place in my heart. So, it's just so so nice to be back. Special thing is when you do so many renovations and you make it new, it still has the charm of the "old Charleston" tournament and that's the nice part about it and the new stadium looks so nice."
