Feliciano Lopez was named the new director of the
Davis Cup and the news left tennis fans disappointed after the mess that this year's Madrid Open proved.
Lopez has been a longtime professional player and he still is as he plays here and there though weekly as before. The Spaniard has been serving as the Madrid Open director for a few years now so he's quite familiar with that side of tennis as well. He will now serve as the new director of the Davis Cup which left tennis fans very disappointed after they for his sacking earlier this year following the Madrid Open fiasco.
The scheduling at the event has been an issue for a few years now with players complaining. This year saw him oversee several controversies including the cake one. Aryna Sabalenka was given a smaller cake, similar to Holger Rune but Carlos Alcaraz was given a huge one. He also oversaw the women's doubles final ceremony going ahead without the players addressing the crowd which created a lot of headlines around the world.
The organizers apologised for that however it still left many fans angry. Now that's been named to another prominent position, fans reacted similarly.
