"Try and sabotage his chances of winning another one": Andy Murray jokes on Novak Djokovic revenge mission as tables turn

Andy Murray joked that given the amount of times he was defeated by Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open that he is there to sabotage him from winning another one.

Murray sat down on court and spoke about his Djokovic memories now he has turned coach over rival for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. They team up for the first time together next week with the draw now done and Murray said that he is on a revenge mission.

As well as discussing how it has been thus far to work with the great Serbian and that what you see is what you get so he wasn't shocked about anything.

"Yeah, played here a few times," Murray said. "Could never quite go over the line unfortunately, this man was single-handedly responsible for that.

"So I'm now here to try and sabotage his chances of winning another one."

"Look, it's been as I expected," Murray continued. "You know, Novak is not just one of the best tennis players of all time, he's one of the best athletes of all time.

"I expected him to be an extremely hard worker, very diligent [and] always looking to improve. So it's as I expected, and looking forward to competing now."

Squaring off in a doubles exhibition match, he joked that he wouldn't be the man he was. "I'm dreadful at tennis now," he added. "Honestly, I've hardly hit a ball for the last few months, so yeah, it's going to be ugly.

"So I need everyone's support. Get behind me, not him [Djokovic]."

He also said that he was shocked to get the call earlier today.

"I was on the 17th hole of the golf course and the guy I was playing with said to me, ‘Do you know what’s next’? I was like, ‘No, not really’.

"He said ‘Do you have any plans to do any coaching’? And I said, ‘Honestly, I can’t think of anything worse to do right now’.

"And then 30 minutes later I was in the car and I called Novak, and then we had a conversation, and he asked if I would be interested in helping, which I obviously wasn’t expecting.
