Stefanos Tsitsipas and
Andrey Rublev set up a clash between themselves with stellar victories in the
Hamburg European Open semifinals.
Andrey Rublev once more defeated
Casper Ruud in Hamburg and by doing so he booked a spot in the final of the Hamburg European Open. It was a well-fought battle between the two of them where Rublev got off to a better start. He took an early 3-1 lead before Ruud fought back to make it 3-3. Rublev broke Casper once more to take a 5-3 lead before ending the set with a 6-4 victory.
The 2nd set was much quicker and more efficient for Rublev who broke Ruud 3 times in total to win it 6-2. It was a very good display from the Russian who struggled with his serve all day hitting the 1st only 47 % of the time.
The 2nd semifinal featured a very good match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and
Christian Garin. The first set was a proper battle with the Greek striking first. He broke Garin's serve to take a 5-2 lead only to lose his serve when he served for the set. Luckily for him, he broke him at 6-5 to clinch the first set 7-5. The 2nd set was when Garin came back into the match. He broke the Greek early to take a 3-1 lead which he maintained through the set before ending it with another break 6-3.
Before the final set, there was a medical timeout called by the Greek. After that, he started playing much better breaking Garin midway through the set to take a 4-2 lead. A couple of games later it was 5-4 with Tsitsipas serving for the set. Unlike the 1st set, he cruised to an easy game and ultimately match victory.
The final will be played tomorrow between Tsitsipas and Rublev and we will have a report for you.
