'Witness the game' 👀 @steftsitsipas in fine form in Monte-Carlo, as he brushes aside Karatsev 6-3 6-4 to reach the last 16 #RolexMCMasters
Stefanos Tsitsipas did not have the best of draws in Monte Carlo but the Greek superstar rose up to the challenge of playing Karatsev early.
The Russian started off his campaign yesterday with a great win over Musetti and it seemed like he would have a decent shot against Tsitsipas who was playing his first clay match in half a year. And it started well for Karatsev who had two breaks points early but failed to use either.
Stefanos was relentless on his own serve not allowing Karatsev much and after settling down he would start creating chances on the Russian's serve as well. At 2-1, he broke him to take the lead which he maintained through the set.
After winning the opening set 6-1 he continued to play well in the 2nd set. He took an early break once more and from there cruised to a 6-4 2nd set victory. A solid effort from Tsitsipas overall against Karatsev who did not produce the same tennis he played yesterday.
To be fair the opponent was much tougher and Tsitsipas after winning the match signed the camera with 'Witness the game'. It's clear he is highly motivated to do well at this event and after reaching the French Open semifinal last year he has every reason to be confident.
