Ugo Humbert is the champion at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and claims a second title of the year after also winning the Open 13 Provence earlier in the season which saw him rise back into French Number One. He defeated Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-3 in the final.
It also saw him maintain a perfect streak that has only ever been done by two other players in Ernests Gulbis and Martin Klizan by winning his first six finals he has appeared in. It is a sixth ATP title and a second at ATP 500 level, a player firmly on form and he will rise to World No.14 on Monday. He is also top five in the ATP Race.
He adds to titles in 2020 in Auckland and Antwerp as well as Halle in 2021, but it has been as of late where has had a purple patch winning in Metz, Marseille and Dubai now since last November. Bublik failed to create an early advantage in the match and Humbert was there to pounce. After a closely fought opening set, Humbert sealed a late break to claim it 6-4.
The second set saw an early break for Humbert who was able to cruise through after that. Bublik had six double faults and was fairly erratic throughout the contest compared to over 20 winners and fewer than five unforced errors from Humbert who remains undefeated in finals. Bublik is used to winning finals so this will be a tough pill to swallow, but it represents yet another triumph for the Frenchman. This in a pivotal year when he will also look to bring home a gold medal in Paris and he is certainly in the form as their best home hope to anchor them. In a latter stage mainly fraught by Andrey Rublev's meltdown, it is a certain Humbert that reigns supreme.
