Ugo Humbert defeated Alex De Minaur in the final of the Antwerp European Open after a strong display.
The final of the Antwerp European Open came down to a match between Ugo Humbert and Alex De Minaur and the Frenchman proved better winning in just over and hour and a half with 6-1 7-6(4). Humbert started off this final much better breaking De Minaur in his first service game and taking a 3-0 lead. The Australian didn't serve badly he was simply outplayed in the early rallies. Much of that trend continued going forward despite De Minaur playing better. Humbert was simply dialled in and his style worked very well against De Minaur. Every time the rally would go on the Frenchman's chances raised. The stellar play continued throughout the set which he ultimately won with 6-1.
The 2nd set featured much better play from De Minaur who finally looked comfortable in rallies and the match. His play on his serve was excellent and he didn't allow Humbert any of the things that got him the easy first set victory. Sadly for De Minaur, he could not do anything on Humbert's serve as well as the Frenchman didn't show any signs of slowing down in regards to his marathon match yesterday. Humbert played himself to two break points in late in the set at 4-4 but De Minaur won four points in a row to win the game.
The second set went on to the tiebreak where Humbert has an impressive score in 2020. Alex started better taking the early 3-1 lead but two consecutive bad misses gave Humbert the confidence he needed to turn it around and he did 7-4. A great display from the Frenchman in the final of the Antwerp European Open.
