Rafa Nadal
Academy suffers ‘a lot of damage’ amid WADA confirms uncle Toni. The former
coach and uncle of the tennis player confirmed that the flooding affecting some
parts of Spain has also impacted the sports complex of the 22-time Grand Slam
champion.
The
climatological disaster in Spain caused by the DANA phenomenon brought a deluge
of torrential rains, with some rivers overflowing and widespread destruction in
many urban areas. Over 200 people have died in affected regions, and thousands
have been left homeless
Rafa Nadal Academy faces damage after DANA floods
At a recent
event in Madrid,
Toni Nadal confirmed that his nephew’s tennis academy was
devastated by the floods, though he acknowledged that the damage pales in
comparison to the catastrophe impacting thousands in Valencia.
"[It]
affected the academy. It did a lot of damage there, but I think it is
insignificant compared to the tragedy we have lived through in Valencia, not
only the Valencians but all Spaniards," Toni Nadal said. "Obviously,
this is not the time to discuss what happened in Mallorca. I, in particular, have
experienced it with great sadness because losing so many lives all at once is
hard, very hard. And then to see the images on TV is disheartening."
the Rafa Nadal Academy shared an update on the damage with several images of
the affected complex. "Thank you all very much for your messages of love
after the huge [rain emoji]," they said.
"The
important thing is that we are all well and working to get back to normal life
at the academy as soon as possible. Thanks to @BombersdeMca [the local fire
service] and the maintenance teams for your effort!"
Rafa Nadal
himself recently shared a message for the victims of the historic floods in the
European country: "Valencia. What we are seeing: An example of solidarity
from its inhabitants," alongside a clapping emoji.
