Officials at the US Open have insisted that the Grand Slam will go ahead despite the hard court swing suffering a major blow with the cancellation of the Citi Open in Washington.

The USTA have insisted that they will create a 'safe and controlled environment' for players; despite the prior tournament which was set to kick the calendar back off being cancelled; due to travel and COVID-19 spikes.
This comes after the USA is dealing with a rise of cases throughout the country; with a seven-day average of 66,406; now the calendar will kick start at the Western and Southern Open; which will also fall by the wayside if the US Open is cancelled; due to it being at the same location.
“The USTA will create a safe and controlled environment for players and everyone else involved in both tournaments that mitigates health risks,” the statement said.
“We constantly base our decisions regarding hosting these tournaments on our three guiding principles that include safe and healthy of all involved; whether hosting these events are in the best interest in the sport of tennis; whether this decision is financially viable.
“We are confident we remain in-line with all three guiding principles.”
