The 30-year-old
Vasek Pospisil is the ATP Comeback Player of the Year following significant progress through the ATP ranking list in 2020 and almost 100 positions gained.
Vasek underwent a surgical microdiscectomy to repair a herniated disk on January 18, 2019, missing the opening six months of the season and falling to his worst ranking position since 2011! After a slow return, the Canadian notched a couple of notable results in the second part of the season, playing well at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid and gathering momentum ahead of 2020.
Vasek won 16 matches in the season behind us, returning where he belongs and hoping for another good year in 2021. The Canadian lost the Montpellier final to Gael Monfils and advanced into the fourth round at the US Open following the season restart. Vasek wrapped up the season with another final in Sofia, failing to win an ATP title against the young Italian Jannik Sinner but earning enough points to find himself in the top-70 and secure the ATP award.
Pospisil's most notable wins came in February when he defeated David Goffin and Daniil Medvedev in back-to-back indoor events, showing his class under a roof and looking good to repeat that in the season ahead of us if he remains healthy.
