Lorenzo Musetti’s journey at the
French Open came to a disappointing end on Friday as he retired during the semifinal against
Carlos Alcaraz. The match ended with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0.
While the result on the big day did not go as he would have liked, Musetti will be proud of coming on the right side of a conversation with a journalist during the competition. After cementing his spot in the semifinal with a victory over Frances Tiafoe with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, the current world number eight had an awkward situation to deal with during the press talk.
Musetti was asked by a reporter how he would prepare for the semifinal clash against Alcaraz, considering he had already lost to him twice this season, in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters and the semifinals of the Rome Masters.
“Hi Lorenzo, congratulations. You are facing Carlos Alcaraz next. You played him already at the Monte-Carlo in the final. You will very likely face him. So how will you prepare for this confrontation, and how different are you as a player than you were at the Monte-Carlo,” asked the journalist.
Musetti
was unhappy with the question as it was asked before Alcaraz featured in the quarterfinal against
Tommy Paul. Musetti responded to the question by stating that he found it ‘very disrespectful’ to Paul and that he would not respond to such a question. “Honestly, I find this very disrespectful for Tommy, for the ones who they play, you know, to a question already about the semifinals,” he said. “There is a match to play. Honestly, I don’t want to answer this question.
The result of that quarterfinal ultimately went the way the journalist predicted, as Alcaraz emerged victorious against Paul in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.
