Ugo Humbert exacted revenge on Felix-Auger Aliassime by defeating him yesterday and reaching the NOVENTI OPEN final.
They faced each other last week in Stuttgart but Auger-Aliassime was able to win that match. Now, in Halle, the conditions favoured Humbert much more and he was able to emerge victoriously. After the match Humbert said:
“It was an amazing match from both of us, but it was very tough physically and mentally. I’m very proud to win this match, it was exceptional."
The match featured a very tight third set that finished in a tiebreak which Humbert won with 7-5. On that finish he said:
“It gives me a lot of confidence [winning matches like this], and when you win some matches 7-6 two times in the third set.”
Humbert will now face an even bigger challenge in Andrey Rublev. The Russian is the better tennis player by far but if Humbert can keep his first as clinical as he did all week it will be tough for the Russian. The final will be played at 14:00 CET.
