Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev will play their compatriots in the Mixed Doubles final after beating Djokovic and Stojanovic 7-6(4) 7-5.
There won't be any gold medal for Novak Djokovic at the Tokyo Olympics as he and Stojanovic lost to Karatsev and Vesnina. It ended a very disappointing day for Djokovic which started so well for the Serbian. The Serbian duo will still have a chance to get a medal (bronze) by playing Barty and Peers.
Vesnina and Karatsev made history with this win as they set up an all-Russian clash in the Mixed Doubles final where they will face Rublev and Pavlyuchenkova. Both Russian teams played an extremely sound event from start to finish capping it off with great wins in the semifinals.
Russia will get both a gold and silver medal thanks to the efforts from these two pairings it just remains to be seen which pair will win which medal. For Djokovic, there remains a chance for two bronze medals and he will contest the first tomorrow at 08:00 CET vs Pablo Carreno Busta.
