Whilst he may play a lot of games in the Olympic Games, the finality of Andy Murray ending his career is very much apparent. He received a standing ovation as he practiced on Court Suzanne-Lenglen for his first doubles match in Paris.
In reality, Murray has had multiple farewells in Paris as of late and both with Dan Evans as he played doubles with his fellow Brit both at the French Open and Olympic Games. They have a real chance for success this time though.
Instead of being a wildcard and playing established teams, it will be Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori who have both lost in singles pretty handily too today. So both aren't in any form on their own no mind in a team.
Especially given that in the case of Murray and Evans, they play together and know each other very well. How much time and effort Nishikori and Daniel have put in will soon be evident. Murray though as ever has been in hilarious form.
He posted pre-tournament about Novak Djokovic with a hilarious and heartfelt message as he embarks on his last tournament with the great Serbian. As well as reposting tweets about him rusting in the rain during the opening ceremony.
Onlookers have said that he is looking good and is moving a lot better amid a recent spinal cyst which saw him not play singles at Wimbledon. Amid all of the conjecture surrounding Nadal, Djokovic hunting an elusive gold medal etc, Murray is perhaps the undercurrent of the tournament.
A player who has often been understated despite achieving so much in an era where he could've achieved a lot less or a lot more and is going out playing doubles when he could've played at Wimbledon and faded away. A true tennis juggernaut and one deserving of this reception he is getting tonight.
