Alex de Minaur was utterly superb even if his marriage planning isn't as he took down Frances Tiafoe at the
Australian Open on Friday and after winning through his third round, it was not tough questions about the match but about his future marriage to fellow tennis star
Katie Boulter that was on the menu.
De MInaur has previously spoken in the past about how he is winning and by proxy so stressed in order to pay for the wedding to the Brit which is what spurs him on to win. He reached the ATP Finals last year and has been one of the greatest stars on tour for a long while.
“Honestly, when I’m out there on court, and you see me so stressed out, I’m just thinking of the wedding budget,” De Minaur said at one point last year.
“And that’s why I’m like, ‘I need to win more money, I need to win more matches.’ That’s all that goes through my head.”
But this was put into question as he hilariously had an interaction with Jim Courier who doubted his wedding planning abilities and whether or not he's leaving it to
Katie Boulter. "Are you doubting me, Jim?" quipped De Minaur. "I am definitely doubting you," replied Courier.
But De Minaur asked Courier himself to make sure to only get a completely different response. "No, this is a 50-50 relationship, right?
"You’ve not been married — you don’t know. You’re about to become a 49% shareholder of a really great company," replied De Minaur.
"Honestly, the fact that we’re both tennis players and we’ve both got quite busy schedules means we’re doing as much as we can together. I’ve been involved so far with some of the decisions. I’m sure when it comes to the details — like napkins, flowers and decoration — that’s not my forte. I’ll leave that to Katie."
Albeit this cued a concerned face from Boulter who was watching on in the crowd. She laughed straight away though to show she wasn't mad at the reply and he signed the camera for her straight away in the aftermath. True love.
