Britain’s
Cameron Norrie has been involved in an argument
during the
Moselle Open. The 29-year-old is taking part in the ATP 250 event where
he registered an impressive win against Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena with a
score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
During the match, Norrie was involved in an argument with
the Spaniard and at one time, he was heard saying: “Your complaining about me
saying vamos a couple of times.” After the match, Norrie expressed satisfaction
with his performance. "I was happy with the way I turned it around, and
it's nice to get a win," he said.
Norrie will now face Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the next
round on Wednesday. The world number 10 booked was given a bye as he booked his
place in the next round without playing any game. It will be the fourth meeting
between the two. In the previous three meetings, Norrie has a slight edge as
she won on two occasions and suffered a solitary defeat.
Their first-ever meeting was in the Miami Open in 2021 where
Norrie came out on top in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5. The Britain’s
tennis star once again emerged victorious in the Indian Wells in 2021 in straight
sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Dimitrov’s only win over Norrie came in the Cinch
Championship in 2022 where he came out on top with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. The
Johannesburg-born star is going through a mixed campaign as he has only managed
to win 19 times and suffered 18 defeats in the process. His best performance
this year came in Rio Open in February. The current world number 57 went on to
play in the semifinal of the ATP 500 event in Rio de Janeiro where he lost to
Argentina’s Mariano Navone in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
