So used to walking on first as defending champion, Novak Djokovic and even Carlos Alcaraz were left confused as to what the rules were in a hilarious exchange before the match got underway on Sunday afternoon.
The duo are becoming familiar foes and seemingly have a very good relationship practicing with each other a lot. There is nothing but respect off the court between the pair and they had a hilarious back and forth moments before the pinnacle of sport in the form of a Wimbledon final.
There was some confusion over the etiquette about who should walk out first with Djokovic's streak snapped last year. He is a seven-time champion at the tournament and is seen as the modern day king of Wimbledon. But Alcaraz as he has shown thus far in the final is looking to ascend that throne.
The Spaniard could be overheard saying: "You go first. I don't know what the rules are." Seemingly a bit perplexed about the situation of being defending champion against the great Serbian, he let him go first and neither seemed that bothered about walking out on court first.
"I try not to think about that I'm the defending champion," Alcaraz said prior to the final. "I just go into every match thinking that obviously I have chances to lose. Every match, it's a war. The opponent, they are going to put his best tennis to beat you. I am thinking that I have to play my best tennis if I want to keep going."
It is also an interesting final as The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton will attend only her second engagement since her cancer diagnosis. She let Debbie Jevans, Sally Bolton and other members of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club hand out the trophy yesterday to Barbora Krejcikova but with Emma Raducanu also in tow, she returned to SW19.
