Former World No.2
Casper Ruud is not known for his exuberant style of play, but has proven he has access to every shot in the book, and pulled off a rather exceptional one in his opening round match at the 2023
Swiss Indoors in Basel.
The Norwegian faced
Alexander Bublik, who is one of the flashier players on tour, in an exciting match on Center Court. Ruud prevailed 7-6(5) 6-2, struggling in the opening set but having a much easier time in the second. Perhaps it was his incredible shot to start the second set that provided the fuel to his fire.
Ruud his incredible tweener lob, Bublik can only stare in amazement
With Bublik serving to begin the second set, the Kazakhstani has Ruud scrambling after a well-placed forehand. Upon drawing the Norwegian to the net, Bublik hit a lob that should have ended the point. However, Ruud tracked the ball down, before hitting a tweener lob winner with his back to the net.
The second seed would go on to close out the match, and next faces Austrian Dominic Stricker in the round of 16.
