A devoted
fan tried to secure a memento from
Daniil Medvedev following his triumph over
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The
Russian tennis player dominated his Thursday match against the Spaniard,
securing a 6-2, 6-3 victory and advancing to the tournament's semifinals.
However, in
the semifinals, the former world No. 1 faced defeat at the hands of the 5th
seed,
Ugo Humbert, who eventually clinched the championship on Sunday, March 2,
with a 7-5, 6-3 scoreline. Despite the loss, Medvedev graciously remained,
signing autographs for spectators in the stadium. It was during this time that
a young fan endeavored to obtain a souvenir from the Russian player.
“Daniil,
can you give a t-shirt please?,” the young fan asked.
“Sorry, I need
for tomorrow, day after tomorrow… hope, for day after after tomorrow”
“A wristband?”,
the kid insisted
“But I don’t
play in wristbands,” Medvedev responded
“can you give
a racket?”
“But I also
play with racket tomorrow,” the world No. 4 said before he left the stadium.
Medvedev's
upcoming challenge will be at Indian Wells, a tournament where he reached the
final in 2023 but fell to
Carlos Alcaraz. The Russian is set for a significant
points defense in the 'Sunshine Double,' as he also won the Miami Open title, defeating the Italian youngstar
Jannik Sinner.
