Following a variety of injuries that has kept him out of the game for close to 2 years, a tearful
Juan Martin Del Potro told reports that he's considering retirement after the upcoming
Argentina Open and
Rio Open this month.
The Argentine last competed on the ATP tour in June 2019, and has undergone several procedures on his injured knee ever since. After battling with recovery, the 33-year old was scheduled to make his return at the Argentina Open. However, he revealed to the media during a press conference in Buenos Aires that the two tournaments in Argentina and Brazil could possibly be his last.
"I'm very excited to be playing here in Buenos Aires after 16 years," said the former World No.3. "It could be one of the last matches of my career, I don't know, but I will try to enjoy it as much as I can.
"I will play against a friend, which means a lot to me. I will always be proud of my career and my fans, I really appreciate all your love."
Del Potro is set to take the court at the Argentina Open on Tuesday, where he'll face compatriot Federico Delbonis.
