Serbia’s legendary tennis player
Novak Djokovic burst into
tears after receiving a hero welcome after his recent triumph.
The 36-year-old defeated the world number three Russia’s Daniil
Medvedev in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 to win the
US Open 2023.
After that victory, Djokovic, upon his return to his
country, received a hero-like welcome from a large crowd that left the
legendary player extremely emotional as he could not hold his tears.
The triumph in New York was the 24th in the career
of the Belgrade-born who is often termed as the greatest men’s player in the
history of tennis in the Open era.
Despite having fears that a downfall might be imminent this
year, Djokovic has proven everyone wrong and went on to win three out of the
four Grand Slams.
His only defeat in 2023 in a Grand Slam match came in Wimbledon
where he lost a five-set thrilling final to Spain’s young sensation Carlos
Alcaraz with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Djokovic will now turn his attention towards preparing for the
Australian Open which is by far his most successful competition. He has lifted
the title 10 times in Melbourne.
