(VIDEO) "Don't know why, it didn't work" - Musetti complicates match with underarm serve on match point

Lorenzo Musetti did a foolish thing for no apparent reason when he tried an underarm serve on match point against Francisco Cerundolo.

The Italian played superb tennis all week long in Hamburg to deservedly reach his maiden ATP final. It's a big one as it's an ATP 500 event and Hamburg no less, an iconic tennis venue. The Italian played a very good match against a strong but tired Cerundolo and perhaps that fatigue was on his mind when he tried an underarm serve on match point.

It was a very curious decision by the Italian who could not explain it after the match simply saying that he didn't know. It backfired horribly as Cerundolo won the point saving the match point. He also broke Musetti later on to prolong the match with the Italian escaping in the tiebreak.

Speaking after the match, Musetti said:

“I don’t know why I did the underarm serve, but it didn’t work. I’m just glad I had the chance to finish the match in the tie-break.”
