(VIDEO) Fritz and Garin push themselves to the limit on clay at Madrid Open

In the third round matchup between Taylor Fritz and Christian Garin, both men left it all on the clay courts as the fought to advance to the next round at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Fritz would prevail in a 6-1 7-6(4) victory, but the scoreline did not reflect the intensity with which both players pushed each other. Not known for his skill on clay, the American displayed techniques that are not associated with his game against Garin, a clay-court specialist.

Both men would find themselves slipping and sliding all over the court, with little regard for their safety. Although Garin is the more experienced clay-court player, the Chilean was unable to oust Fritz, who has been having an exceptional start to the 2023 season.
