Gael Monfils missed a long time with another injury that saw him have a small procedure on his foot to relieve pain and now he's back to playing tennis.
The veteran had a strong start to the year in Australia but suffered minor injury setbacks as the Tour switched to the clay. He took time to recover from all of that and he's back to the courts practising together with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Monfils had a very strong showing last year in North America playing a couple of strong events including the Masters and the US Open. The veteran is still capable of high level of tennis as he showed in Indian Wells earlier this year by beating Daniil Medvedev. No player would want to play against him because his peak tennis is very hard to counter.
It's good to see one of the most popular player's on Tour back on the court.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
