When the going gets tough, Andrey gets going 💪 @AndreyRublev97 takes out Cressy 6-4 7-6 to make the #CitiOpen last 8
Andrey Rublev was able to endure the repeated serve and volley assaults from Maxime Cressy to win the match in Washington 6-4 7-6(8).
The American has high hopes of this North American stretch and he proved why today against Rublev. The Russian had so many issues against Cressy despite being the better player for the better part of the match. The Russian left many chances on the table, especially in the 2nd set which went to the tiebreak. The first one was rather simple as Rublev was able to find some good returns early to break Cressy.
From there, Rublev largely held his serve thanks to his own good serving. Cressy was unable to put many good returns back and Rublev finished off the opening set with 6-4. The 2nd set was much more complicated for both.
Rublev had plenty of chances having several break points in different games but he could break Cressy. The Russian had no issues on his own serve being able to keep Cressy away from any break points. We ended up in a tiebreak and it was a very up and down affair. Rublev was on top early, but Cressy fought back to take the lead.
Eventaully Rublev was able to outlast his opponent and seal it with an ace 10-8.
