The end of Gael Monfils and Botic van de Zandschulp's match at the Qatar Open is perhaps one of the weirdest finishes to a tennis match as the Dutchman had a complete meltdown.
Monfils won the match 6-1, 7-6(2) in a contest that lasted one hour and 42 minutes, but the Qatar Open was a true iteration of a tennis score not telling the full story. Van de Zandschulp after losing the first set broke in the sixth game and found himself serving to take it to the decider.
Monfils broke back and the Dutchman squandered set points in the next game. The former served at 5-6 and Van de Zandschulp smashed his racquet when his opponent put a volley away. The umpire gave him a warning for racquet abuse and it went to a tie-break. Van de Zandschulp fought back again and saved three match points, but served an ace which would've given him a 10-9 lead. He decided though to smash a ball into the crowd and received a point penalty.
It stayed 9-9 and Monfils was then the recipient of a lucky net cord to seal the win. When your luck is not in, it's not in and in the case of Botic van de Zandschulp, it certainly wasn't.
