There is giving your all and then there is Jack Draper who battled himself to sickness against Marcos Giron in a five set epic at the 2024 Australian Open to reach the second round pushing himself to the limit in the Aussie sunshine.
Draper who made the final last week in Adelaide had to battle from two sets to one down, but eventually after three hours and 20 minutes got over the line against the American 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-0 6-2.
However, it took everything out of Draper who rushed over to the net for the handshake with Giron, before jogging to the side of the court and being sick into a bin. TV cameras quickly cut away from the Brit as he recovered with a mix of shock and concern from the fans in the crowd at what was going on.
It was also a day that saw ball people left with heat exhaustion with Peyton Stearns running over to hand one a towel during her exhausting loss to Daria Kasatkina. For Draper next, it is 14th seed Tommy Paul and he will hope not to repeat that gruelling tie especially in being sick post match.
