Rafael Nadal won the
Australian Open this year and it was something that was unexpected for him as he didn't triumph in Australia many times.
The win came after a comeback win in five sets over Daniil Medvedev but one painful defeat in Melbourne was in 2017. The Spaniard reached the final that year and lost to Federer in five sets. It was a good run for him and a moment from that year stuck out and it was a post-match interview following his R4 win over Gael Monfils.
It's quite specific as he joked about his then-girlfriend who would later become his wife:
"Yes it was great, I think the negative thing is I lost in the quarterfinals in Brisbane but the good thing, I had a chance to visit Sydney. I hadn't been there before so I was knowing a little bit about the city and we enjoy it, and after ten years, my girlfriend gets a wildcard to get here."
Courier then asked the King of Clay why Perello was a wildcard and not a main-draw player, to which he responded:
"It's better that we stop here."
