Christopher Eubanks was dumped out of the Miami Open by Alexander Zverev in a tight affair 7-6, 6-3 as the German advanced to the fourth round. But it was the reaction post-match that illicited more reaction.
Eubanks approached the net with a grin and shook hands with Zverev, but as the German went for a hug, he declined with Zverev then awkwardly patting him on the chest instead. With Zverev under scrutiny due to the allegations of domestic abuse and the trial that is pending, this has seen some praise Eubanks for this as well as others state that it is unlikely to have anything to do with that issue.
"King behaviour," one wrote. "He is so iconic for that," another quipped. Another took the view more that he was a sore loser. "The players from the US are sour losers really. Too much attitude for too little deserving performance."
While another opined that Eubanks didn't do this due to the allegations and only because he was frustrated with losing. "Because he lost you snowflakes. Nothing to do with the "allegations." Next up for Zverev is Karen Khachanov who he plays in the night session on Tuesday for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
