Novak
Djokovic and
Carlos Alcaraz starred in a joint training session at the Nitto
ATP Finals in Turin.
World No. 1
and World No. 2 are gearing up for the final tournament of the ATP Tour this
year, with the Finals set to take place between November 12 and 19 in Turin.
For the
second consecutive week, the top two players in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings
convened for a joint training session. On Friday, before all the players headed
to the center of Turin for media engagements,
Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz
shared the court at Pala Alpitour for two hours, gearing up for their
respective debuts in the Nitto ATP Finals, commencing this Sunday.
This scene,
which had already unfolded a few days ago at the Rolex Paris Masters, the last
ATP Masters 1000 of the season, once again captured attention by featuring the
world's top two players and major protagonists of the 2023 season.
Arriving in
Turin with six titles in 2023, including the Australian Open, Roland Garros,
and the US Open, along with ATP Masters 1000 victories in Cincinnati and Paris,
Djokovic is steadfastly aiming to claim his seventh Nitto ATP Finals title.
This achievement would break the tie with Roger Federer (six) and establish
Djokovic as the player with the most titles in the history of the Nitto ATP
Finals.
Alcaraz,
who has also clinched six titles this year, notably Wimbledon, the BNP Paribas
Open, and the Mutua Madrid Open, makes his debut in the year-end event with the
firm intention of securing a title that has eluded Spanish players since 1998
when Álex Corretja defeated Carlos Moyà in Hanover.
During the
initial half-hour, starting at 12:30 PM, Djokovic and Alcaraz practiced on the
first training court at Pala Alpitour, later moving to the central court, where
all the Nitto ATP Finals matches will be played starting this Sunday.
In that
spectacular setting and under the watchful eyes of Turin residents, as well as
their respective teams, the Serbian and the Spaniard engaged in a training set
where they left everything on the court, delivering spectacular points and
gearing up for the significant challenge that lies ahead.
Counting
the Turin session, it marked the fourth time Djokovic and Alcaraz have trained
together, having shared training sessions previously at the Mutua Madrid Open
2022, Roland Garros 2022, and Rolex Paris Masters 2023. Djokovic will kick off
the tournament against Holger Rune on Sunday, while Alcaraz starts his campaign
against Zverev on Monday.
