Netflix have confirmed their next foray into tennis after their ill-fated previous series Break Point which tried to channel into the wild success of Drive to Survive, the F1 docuseries which has seen F1 become a literal global phenomenon. Rafael Nadal's documentary series has been confirmed to premiere on May 29.
Various forays into a multitude of sports including their MGM Netflix Slam in Tennis during the build up to Indian Wells previously as well as in other sports such as boxing show that they are not yet ready to leave tennis behind and also the addition of new sports.
Nadal played in the Netflix Slam previously so has history working with the streaming platform and will give a unique glimpse into his success that has never been seen before. The series offers unreleased archive footage and exclusive access to the retired tennis icon. This on a week where he has been seen at his academy with Iga Swiatek.
It will follow him during his final year on the tour in 2024 and over the four episodes provides an intimate portrait of one of the greatest sportsman of the modern era.
It shows moments from his beginnings at just three years old to his return to competition in 2024. The documentary shows not only his evolution but also the physical and emotional toll that the game has taken on his life as he faces his own body as well as other iconic names.
Speaking of, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are involved in the series with interviews with his leading rivals as well as John McEnroe and members of his family and entourage.
Skydance Sports who have produced America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, WWE: Unreal, and ELWAY, as well as Emmy and PGA nominated AKA Charlie are behind it and it debuts at the end of next month.
