America’s young tennis star Bel Shelton produced the fastest
serve of the
US Open 2023.
The fourth and final Grand Slam is moving towards the business
end where players from all over the world are battling it out to secure the
ultimate glory.
Shelton continued his winning run in the mega-event and cemented
his spot in the fourth round after beating Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in the round
of 32 clash with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 on Friday.
During the third set of the match, the Atlanta-born produced
the fastest service of the competition at 147mph, much to the delight of the
fans.
The result was a special one as it put Shelton just one win
away from equaling his best record at any Grand Slam.
The young tennis sensation has only played in the quarterfinal
of a mega-event once which was in the Australian Open earlier this year.
However, he ended on the losing side in that fixture against
fellow American Tommy Paul with a score of 7-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Shelton will now face the same opponent — Paul — in the round
of 16 clash of the US Open on Sunday.
