A new trend on X (formerly known as Twitter) has been asking for that one video and the
US Open account chimed asking for a moment from the tournament and one in particular came to mind with
Daniil Medvedev truly at his best in 2019 when he became the villain of Flushing Meadows.
Medvedev got under the skin of the fans as he saw off Feliciano Lopez 7-6(1), 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 with a second four-set win in consecutive days as he soaked up boos inside Louis Armstrong Stadium. It became an ongoing saga for Medvedev who became champion at the US Open where he was the pantomime villain of the piece and the video was reshared as the greatest interview of all time garnering thousands of likes and retweets.
“Thank you all, guys, because your energy tonight gave me the win,” Medvedev said in an interview on court. “Because if you were not here, guys, I probably would lose the match. Because I was so tired, I was cramping yesterday. It was so tough on me. So I want all of you to know when you sleep tonight, I won because of you.”
“The energy you’re giving me right now, guys, I think it will be enough for my five next matches. I mean, the more you do this, the more I will win for you guys.”
