Germany’s Alexander Zverev has admitted that his interview with former British player Laura Robson was one of the most ‘awkward’ interviews he had during the year in a flirty exchange with the former British No.1.
The 27-year-old is currently in Turin, Italy where he is taking part in the ATP Finals.  The mega-event, which is the last in the men’s tennis calendar, began on Sunday, when the top eight players in men’s tennis are taking part to secure the ultimate prize. Zverev began his campaign on Monday as he defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
After the match, Zverev was interviewed by former British player Robson who is working for Sky Sports in the project. The interview started on a very interesting footing where the 30-year-old made a comment that the reigning world number two just told her that he was not sweating. "You just told me that you weren't even sweating out there,” she said. In response to that, Zverev quickly stated: "Let's be clear: I gave you a handshake, you complained about the handshake saying it was too formal, then I tried to give you two kisses on the cheek and you said, 'No, you're too sweaty, get away from me'. Then I said you complain about too many things."
Zverev then talked about how he did not feel like it was a perfect game despite winning it in straight sets. In response to that, Robson quickly highlighted that the 2024 French Open runner-up just made nine unforced errors in the match and asked him how much he thinks he can improve from such a performance.
Zverev seemed a bit lost while responding to that question and eventually conceded that Robson made him nervous during the interview. "You make me nervous during this interview so I can't really... I start mumbling and I don't know what to say anymore,” he said. Robson then went on to offer Zverev that she can end the interview is he is nervous, to which he responded and admitted that this was the most ‘awkward’ interview he had this year. "If you're nervous we can stop there," she asked. "This is the most awkward interview I've had this year, for sure,” said Zverev.
