Tennis
player Benjamin Lock suffered a blow to the head from a racket during a
training session in the midst of the ATP Playford Challenger. The blow was the
result of an accident after the tennis player Li Tu accidentally lost his grip
on the racket.
Injuries in
tennis are often related to sudden movements and physical exertion. However, in
an unusual situation, Zimbabwean tennis player Benjamin Lock experienced an
unexpected injury during the ATP Playford Challenger. What made it even more
unusual is that the cause of the injury was not particularly his fault.
Benjamin
Lock, ranked 346th in the world, was sitting by the baseline, taking a break,
and observing a practice session involving Australian player Li Tu. As Li Tu
was practicing, his racket slipped from his hands and flew directly towards
Benjamin Lock, who was in his chair, hitting him directly on the head.
"No
tennis this week. Out with a concussion. Will be back in a few days."
Benjamin Lock shared an update on X after the injury
The impact
was strong enough to startle Li Tu, who reacted with surprise and confusion. He
quickly ran over to his fellow player, clearly concerned about what had
happened.
Although
the extent of Benjamin Lock's injury from the racket impact was not immediately
clear, it was evident that he needed medical attention. He was expected to
compete against Coleman Wong Chak-lam in the first round, but the news of his
withdrawal from the Playford Challenger indicates that the injury was more
serious than initially appeared.
As for Li
Tu, he had a good start in the tournament, having won his first-round match the
day before against Zachary Viiala. However, the surprise and concern over the
racket incident accompanied him as he faced Japanese player Taro Daniel in the
second round of the same tournament, a match he ultimately lost in straight
sets.
