Day Four of the
Vienna Open will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 26, at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria. Here is our
preview of the day at the ATP 500 tournament, with
Daniil Medvedev,
Jannik Sinner, and
Andrey Rublev set to take to Center Court.
First up, third seed Rublev will face World No. 46 Matteo Arnaldi for the first time. The Russian will be extra motivated to pull off a win in this match as it would secure his place in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. He moved within one match of qualification after he won his first-round clash against Alexei Popyrin in straight sets.
Next up will be top seed Medvedev's encounter with World No. 17
Grigor Dimitrov. The players have faced each other 7 times in the past, with the Russian leading their head-to-head 5-2. They last faced each other at the 2023 Rotterdam Open, where Medvedev won in straight sets.
The 27-year-old made a strong start at the tournament, sweeping past rising talent Arthur Fils 6-4, 6-2. Dimitrov also moved past his first-round opponent Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, but an on-form Medvedev may be difficult to defeat.
Tsitsipas, Sinner, Tiafoe and Monfils complete center court line-up
Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will play against qualifier Tomas Machac. The Greek player has been struggling on the ATP Tour as of late but pulled off a much-needed win against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the first round, which suggests that he is aiming for redemption in Vienna.
This will be followed by an all-Italian clash between second seed Sinner and lucky loser
Lorenzo Sonego. The former currently leads their head-to-head 3-0, having last defeated his compatriot at the 2023 US Open. Both players had tough opening rounds, with Sonego having to overcome a three-set battle with Francisco Cerundolo while Sinner fought for a tight straight-sets victory against Ben Shelton.
Closing out the day on Center Court will be Frances Tiafoe's match against Gael Monfils. The American player had a solid run to the US Open quarter-finals last month but suffered some early exits on the Asian Swing, and was trailing 1-4 in his opening set against Dan Evans before the Brit had to retire from their first-round clash.
Despite being ranked over seventy places behind Tiafoe, Monfils could pose a real threat to the World No. 14, as the French player achieved a surprise victory at the Stockholm Open last week. He appeared to carry this momentum on into his first round in Vienna, where he defeated Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-4.
