A video claiming that former world number one Andy Murray has started coaching Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in Qatar ahead of the 2025 season has been apparently debunked. The 37-year-old is already regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, has already begun preparations for the next season after having a rather below-par outing in 2024 according to his own high standards.
The 2024 season became the first in seven years where Djokovic failed to win a single Grand Slam. That’s not it, as the former world number one also failed to win a single ATP title in the calendar year. His only big achievement in 2024 was winning an Olympic gold medal for his country as he defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. Those performances pushed Djokovic to sign his former rival Murray as the new head coach for the 2025 season.
The decision was a surprising one considering that the 37-year-old, who is regarded as the greatest British player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category having won as many as three Grand Slam titles, retired from the sport recently after taking part in the Paris Olympics’ doubles category with Dan Evans.
The two were eventually knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal of the mega-event. Ever since Djokovic announced Murray as his coach, tennis fans have been eagerly waiting to see them working together on the tennis court. Their excitement reached new highs when a video appeared on social media platforms which claimed that the two legendary tennis stars had started working together in Qatar ahead of the 2025 season. However, it became clear that the video is about a month old, and it was shot at a time when Djokovic was in Qatar as a part of the promotion of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
