Novak Djokovic has been crowned the 2023 Men's Champion of Champions by French newspaper, L'Equipe after recent awards snub from BBC and ATP respectively despite one of the best years of his career
The newspaper presents four awards every year with female and male sports athletes crowned as the best French male and female athletes are also crowned. It is also an award which often recognises top tennis stars with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal winning it multiple times as well as Andre Agassi being the first in 1999.
Recent award snubs for Djokovic
He has won it for the best male international sports athlete for a second time thanks to an incredible year which has seen him win seven singles titles including three out of the four Grand Slam titles and the season-ending ATP Finals.
There was recent criticism as Djokovic was denied any awards in ATP categories including by the man himself in event of Goran Ivanisevic not winning ATP Coach of the Year to which he sarcastically put they have to win 4/4 Grand Slams to be considered. The BBC Sport Star of the Year was won by Erling Haaland with Djokovic not even in the top three despite his excellent year. But there has been an upturn when it comes to his award fortunes with Djokovic beating Iga Swiatek to European Sportsperson of the Year for the fifth time and now claiming the honour from L'Equipe.
