Borna Coric came back into the top form in style beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of the Western & Southern Open.
The triumph secured him his 3rd career trophy, an ATP 1000 Masters one. It's the biggest trophy in his career and it comes at the perfect time. Just as Coric was slipping on the rankings he gets a huge boost jumping over 120 spots to inside the top 30.
It's something that comes after hours and hours of hard work and many people investing in it:
“Thank you to my parents, who are not here, my sister and my team. It has been very tough for us. With my physio, if I didn’t have him I wouldn’t be on the court... Then of course to my tennis coach, Mate. We have been working very hard and now we are here.”
It was a good match from Coric despite a slow start and he recognized it himself. The bar was not high for him as he really did not play that strong of a tennis earlier in the year but he produced his best when it mattered:
“It was a very, very tough match. At the beginning, I wasn’t playing very well and he was pushing me very hard. But I started to serve better and play better and I was fighting hard. Then in the second set, I thought I played the best set of the whole year.”
