The island of La Palma in Spain has been dealing with an ongoing volcanic eruption and Rafael Nadal has promised help for those affected.
The Canary Islands are a group of islands located near the coast of Africa but historically belonged to Spain for centuries. The largest island in the group, La Palma, has been dealing with an ongoing volcanic eruption that has left many on the island without a home. Rafael Nadal, who hails from an island himself, promised help for all those affected.
He wrote:
"Following the news and suffering with the terrible images of the volcano eruption on La Palma and the consequences for so many affected families. We will try to do our bit in due course."
The islanders living on the island received offers of support from other notable Spanish athletes such as Carla Saurez Navarro and Pau Gasol. The situation is still ongoing as everyone waits to see when the eruption will cease so that relief efforts can start and life returns to normal.
