The last match Roger Federer played came at Wimbledon where the Swiss ace got beaten by Hubert Hurkacz. The final set was particularly ugly as the Polish player served a bagel to Federer who did not play a good match at all. After the match, he revealed that his knee bothered him which explained some of his performance but also left a lot of suspicion on if he is ever going to get fully healthy again.
The coach of Hurkacz, Craig Boynton was in attendance at that match and he is unsure how much more Federer can play:
"Roger Federer, I don't know for sure. We will see when Roger comes back and how much he plays."
It's a stance many people in the tennis world have but counting out Federer fully would be foolish. What is certain is that he won't play for much longer and 2022 could very well be his final year on tour. It will all depend on the condition of his knee and the level of his play once he does return to the courts. Time will tell.
