During the third day of play in China, the last matches of the first round were played, so we already know the whole line-up of players playing among the last 16.
In the first match, wild card Hyeon Chung and St Petersburg semifinalist Joao Sousa met. Chung started the match better when he didn't give a chance to his opponent in the first set and won it 6-1. Alexander Bublik surprised the American in the first round. Fritz managed to deal with Dominic Thiem a few days ago, but not even a 6-4 lead and 2 break balls in the second set was enough to beat Kazakh. The first game in the second and third set was completely identical. Fritz led 40-15 on Bublik's serve, but he scored the following 4 points to win the game.
